Before Leaving a Company, Check What Your Feishu Documents Really Belong To

Separate personal notes from company-owned Feishu content before offboarding, complete a proper handover, and verify the files you are allowed to keep.

My Space sounds personal, but in an enterprise tenant it is still part of the organization. Account removal can change ownership, access and shared links.

Before offboarding, separate personal material from company assets and complete the handover. Downloading everything first creates a bigger problem later.

What changes when an account leaves

An administrator can transfer documents and wiki resources after a member leaves so that team knowledge does not disappear with the account. That process protects the organization’s assets, not a former employee’s continued access.

Material that may need personal retention usually includes:

  • Personal notes and general methods that you created and are allowed to keep.
  • Files obtained through another authorized channel.
  • Non-sensitive information needed for future work or a personal portfolio.

Company project documents, client files, internal processes and restricted attachments should be handed over according to policy.

Make a handover checklist

ContentAction
Personal notes and summariesExport only after checking for company information
Team project documentsGive to the manager or named successor
Client and contract filesDo not retain privately; follow the policy
External shared linksRevoke or transfer during handover
Personal-device copiesDelete anything you are not allowed to keep

The checklist prevents two mistakes: taking everything, or leaving behind material that genuinely belongs to you.

What to hand over

Confirm the required recipient and deadline. A useful handover includes:

  1. Current project state and next actions.
  2. Key documents, folders and external collaboration links.
  3. Permission owners and links that need to be revoked.
  4. Open risks and deadlines.

A handover is more than saying that everything is somewhere in Feishu. The next person needs a clear starting point.

Exporting personal material safely

After confirming that the material may be retained:

  • Save images locally with the document.
  • Check tables, code blocks and quotations.
  • Move the folder to a personal device and test it.
  • Remove client names, pricing or internal architecture details that should not be retained.

Modern offboarding advice should never imply that employees should quietly take every company file. The safe outcome is a complete handover, lawful personal retention and timely permission cleanup.

What a browser extension can and cannot do

A browser extension can help save content you are already permitted to access. It cannot bypass account permissions or remove administrator download restrictions.

For personal notes and general methods, free Markdown export is usually enough. Batch export is for personal material you have confirmed you may keep, not for copying an entire company wiki.

Run one offline check

Before leaving, use a device that is not signed in to the company tenant and open the exported files. Check images, tables and internal links separately. Links that depend on the organization account should not be treated as a permanent archive.

A tidy offboarding process is about boundaries, not download volume. Hand over what belongs to the company and retain only what you are allowed to keep.
