Feishu now offers Download as Markdown. Older tutorials that say Feishu supports only Word and PDF are out of date.
A successful download is not yet a portable offline archive. Images, comments and complex blocks are where the gaps usually show up.
Where the official export lives
Open a Feishu document and look for Download as in the top-right or more menu, then choose Markdown. Recent versions may offer options such as text only or include more content, so use the labels shown in your current interface.
The output is a .md file that opens in any text editor, Obsidian, VS Code or another Markdown tool.
What official export usually preserves
- Heading levels
- Lists, tasks and quotations
- Ordinary links
- Basic tables
- Code blocks
- References to images and attachments
For many documents, that is enough to continue editing.
What still needs attention
Comments do not normally travel with the body
Comments are collaboration records rather than document blocks. Move any conclusion that must survive into the body before export.
Images may remain remote
The Markdown file downloads, but its images still point to Feishu. An account change, permission change or expired link can break them later.
For long-term offline use, check that the images are physically stored with the Markdown.
Complex blocks may simplify
Merged cells, multi-column layouts, callouts, whiteboards, diagrams and tables of contents can change structure. Inspect each important block after export.
Official Markdown versus a local image archive
| Result | Official Markdown | Markdown plus local images |
|---|---|---|
| Body structure | Usually preserved | Usually preserved |
| Images | May remain remote | Downloaded and referenced locally |
| Offline use | Depends on image URLs | Works offline |
| Moving the folder | Images may break | Relative paths remain valid |
| Best use | Quick backup or continued editing | Long-term archive and migration |
For sending a colleague a document to edit, official export is enough. For a personal knowledge base, a hard-drive archive or AI context, local images matter more.
Run a three-step check
- Disconnect from the network and open the Markdown file.
- Move the
.mdfile and image folder together. - Search for a phrase from the middle of the document.
Only after those checks does the result qualify as a portable archive.
When official export is not enough
Use a browser extension or API workflow when you need batch processing, image ZIP, PDF or single-file HTML.
Feishu Toolkit Markdown export is free. Markdown with Images ZIP saves images in document order and is intended for offline, portable archives; it is a Pro tool with free trials.
The practical combination
Use official export to test a small number of documents and verify formatting. For long-term archives or larger migrations, add a batch or local-image workflow.
Do not keep using a complex script solely because an old tutorial says Feishu lacks Markdown. Do not assume the official download solves images and comments either.
