Feishu to Word: Fixing the Export or Choosing a Better Source Format

Compare the source and Word file by headings, tables, images, code blocks and page breaks. Simple layout issues can be fixed in Word, but Markdown is usually a more stable source format for long-term editing and cross-tool migration.

Word is a familiar editing and delivery format, but Feishu and Word do not share the same layout model. A heading may change weight, a table may become wider, and an image may move to another page without the export itself being broken.

Instead of repairing the first page you notice, classify the change. Different kinds of layout damage require different fixes.

Keep the original and work on a copy

Copy the exported Word file before editing it. Keep one version for comparison and a second for changes. Otherwise, after an hour of adjustments, you can no longer tell which difference came from conversion and which came from your own work.

Compare five areas first:

  • Heading levels and the table of contents.
  • Table rows, merged cells and widths.
  • Image placement and captions.
  • Code blocks, quotations and equations.
  • Page breaks, headers, footers and orientation.

Build a difference list before deciding whether Word is worth repairing.

Common conversion losses

Headings and navigation

A heading that looks large in Feishu is not necessarily a Word heading style. The text survives, but automatic navigation and numbering may not.

If the Word file must maintain a table of contents, apply real heading styles rather than changing font size only.

Tables and merged cells

Tables change easily. Merged cells, cross-page rows, fixed widths and nested tables are recalculated by the new layout engine.

Check whether the table needs scrolling or pagination before changing column widths. Do not remove important columns just to make the first page look tidy.

Images and attachments

Images may become floating objects or disappear when their source URL requires permission. Attachments usually remain as separate objects, but they do not recreate the original Feishu link.

Move the Word file and its resources to a new folder, disconnect from the network and open it again. The export is portable only if the images remain.

Code blocks and equations

Code needs a monospaced font and explicit line breaks. Equations depend on whether the source used text, an image or a structured formula. If the source is a screenshot, later editing is already lost.

For code-heavy or formula-heavy material, Word is often an intermediate delivery file rather than a durable source. Markdown or LaTeX will be easier to maintain.

Repair Word or switch to Markdown

Stay with Word when:

  • Only styles, margins or a few table widths changed.
  • The recipient explicitly requires .docx.
  • The document is short enough that manual repair is cheap.

Switch the source to Markdown when:

  • Obsidian, Yuque or another knowledge base is the destination.
  • Version history and text diffs matter.
  • The document contains many code blocks, links and images.
  • You do not want to repair Word styling after every export.

Markdown is not a print-layout replacement. It preserves content and structure. Keeping Markdown as the source and exporting PDF or Word on demand is often simpler than treating Word as the only master file.

A steadier export path

  1. Open the source in the Feishu web app and confirm download access.
  2. Export Markdown first to verify headings, images and links.
  3. Export Word or PDF separately when a fixed deliverable is needed.
  4. Keep assets in the same folder and test the archive offline after moving it.
  5. Record the export method and date for later review.

Do not repair three formats at once. Decide which file is the long-term source; derive the others from it.

When the platform should remain the source

If a team still maintains the document in Feishu, the live source remains authoritative. An exported file is a copy and will not receive later edits.

Before leaving a project or organization, confirm download access while the account and links still work. After the account is removed, both permission and URLs may have changed.

Word is a useful bridge, but ask which file must remain editable six months from now. That answer determines whether to repair the Word export or change the export path.
